Tumble Dryer Usage Guide
General tips for getting the best from your tumble dryer and avoiding common faults, from Braintree Appliance Repairs.
Getting the best from your tumble dryer
- Clean the fluff filter after every single load — this is the most common cause of dryers taking too long or not drying properly, and a blocked filter is also a fire risk.
- On vented dryers, check the outside vent hose and flap regularly for lint blockages or damage — poor venting is a common cause of long drying times.
- On condenser and heat pump dryers, empty and rinse the water tank after every load, and clean the condenser unit every few months as per your manual.
- Don't overload the drum — clothes need room to tumble freely for even, efficient drying.
- Separate heavy items (towels, jeans) from lighter items where possible, as they dry at different rates.
- Give your dryer space — poor ventilation around the unit can cause it to overheat and trip out.
Safety first
Never leave a tumble dryer running unattended or overnight, and always clean the filter before each use — lint build-up is a genuine fire risk. If your dryer is overheating, smells hot/burning, or the drum won't turn, switch off and call us.
If a fault persists after checking the above, it's usually down to a worn part rather than something you can fix at home — see Tumble Dryer Repairs.
